Anorectal Patient Bill of Rights

 

-You have the right to be treated with dignity and sensitivity

-You have the right to bring a chaperone or family member

-You have the right to an accurate diagnosis that may not just be ‘hemorrhoids’

-You have the right to NOT have your hemorrhoids banded if your problem is something else (anal fissure, etc.)

-You have the right to be advised of the range of treatment options

-You have the right to decline examination and treatment

-You have the right to know the potential complications of treatment

-You have the right to consent yes or no before any treatment is given

-You have the right to take the time to do your own research

-You have the right to have hemorrhoid bands placed carefully under direct vision rather than a five-second ‘click and go’ blind procedure (banding mill)

-You have the right to stop treatment at any time

-You have the right to see a qualified General or Colorectal Surgeon

-You have the right to have any anorectal issue covered by MSP unless it is for cosmetic services
